Waka is a traditional and fairly easy going Maori man. Due to his attention to detail and desire to learn he got into mechanics. He likes to walk a little on the wild side but still takes care of his responsibilities. he is a dedicated father who does the best that he can to make his money without selling out. The small close crew of the ship as well as the exciting region and time have made him a motivated and willing pirate.[/style]

Born on a Moari drifter colony Waka had a fairly normal child hood. His parents ran a salvage and repair shop with him and his younger sister playing around all the equipment and parts. Home schooled Waka got a rounded education with an emphasis on mechanical engineering and linguistics. When he was 16 he fell in love with a woman Named Serra Korai. They had a daughter and began working in the family business. Two years later an accident at the shop killed Serra as well as his parents, leaving the shop in shambles and only himself, his sister, and his daughter remaining.with little means for income Waka began to hire himself out to whatever ship paid the best. though not a criminal by nature the money and availability of jobs on smugglers and pirate ships was too much of a temptation to resist. Though being an onboard engineer often took him away from his family for extended periods of time. his sister takes care of his daughter Kora while he is away.
Life going from ship to ship was strenuous with Waka barely making enough to support his family much less put money away to rebuild the shop. He tries to keep a happy demeanor but a decade of piracy has taken its toll. The engine rooms on most ships are isolated from the inertia dampeners as well as the artificial gravity making the engine rooms a very difficult place to move around in. With increased gravity due to inertia working in the engine room gave Waka a very large and muscular build, which he has had to use to his advantage more than once. as well as the stress on his body, his expertise as an engineer and as a Steam torch operator has also made him a seasoned member of the boarding parties as the person in charge of breaching and salvage. Currently he has found boarding on the " INSERT SHIPS NAME" and has settled into the ships routine.

The hatch to the engine room opens as Waka walks in, he seals the hatch behind him as his posture effortlessly adjusts to the alternative gravity. as he revels in the feeling of omnidirectional gravity he smoothly propels his body over the engine to the valve manifold on the starboard overhead, where he busies himself with the pressure readings and makes small adjustments to the ballast pressure. As Waka efficiently goes through the standard operating procedures for the plant, he finds that his mind wanders back to Moai. In his last transmission from home his sister reminded him that the colonies coming of age ceremony would begin during the next solar season. Waka knew that even though Kora may not ask him directly, she would want a new dress for her ceremony, a good ceremonial dress would be made of Gaian silk and he had no idea how he was going to scrape together the credits for that. He hoped that the ship found some good work soon or he would have to use any shore time they got to earn some credits on the side. As Waka allowed himself to drift from the valve manifold toward the photon condenser coils he smiled, thinking of Kora entering adulthood wearing a beautiful silk gown.
