MELANTHIOS NANDA
let's start with the basics
[style=color:#6d4350; text-transform:uppercase;]name ::
Melanthios Nanda.nicknames ::
Thois.age ::
twenty eight. birthday ::
july third.hometown ::
the hive.address ::
onboard the azalea.occupation ::
they call me an engineer, but I’m just a glorified mechanic. I keep the bucket of bolts up so that we can get on with the real work; lightening the load of merchants that happen across our path.[/style]
don't dare try to judge me
[style=color:#6d4350; text-transform:uppercase;]but let me tell you what i look like ::
I dress in work pants and an undershirt most of the time, there’s no need to look nice in an engine room. I wear sturdy boots everywhere, whether the situation calls for it or not. Um… I’ve got dark blonde hair and blue eyes, usually covered in engine grease. The only time I really clean-up is when we go into port, and that’s not often enough to count. [/style]
that's just the way it is
[style=color:#6d4350; text-transform:uppercase;]i really like ::
having credits to spend, seedy bars, the sound of engines running (can't sleep without it), easy women, bar fights, intimidating people, cigarettes, the freedom of open space, but i don't like ::
relationships, i'm kind of a loner by nature. authority, looking like a fool, i rock at ::
engineering obviously, i can make anything work, given the time and materials. quick, cool under pressure. but i can't seem to ::
take relationships seriously, connect with people, respect authority, keep my hands off of things that aren't mine. people say i'm arrogant, but i don't give a damn what they think. i am afraid of ::
well, if you ask me, i'll say nothing at all, but secretly i'm terrified about what things are like back home. That and been caught anywhere near the Hive. you know i'm not normal ::
can't sleep without the sound of an engine running, even when i was a baby. i get nervous when people make sudden moves. i think i like ::
girls, most certainly girls. so if you want me ::
in the constant string of girls i stumble home with, there's not much of a standard. i've got a pretty enough smile and a dangerous enough job that most of them aren't bad looking. it would take a lot for someone to really catch my attention, she would have to be smart, deadly, and well... gorgeous. Not often a woman like that comes along. not to mention they would have to deal with my... issues. but never ever ::
unfortunately, i'm as shallow as a shot glass, so really girl's gotta have something to catch my attention. sorry. don't pander, if you can't stand up to me, i'm not interested. everyone has secrets ::
there's a fairly large reward if you can produce me alive back at the Hive. Good luck with that. I will die before going back there. my mother smuggled me off world when i was fifteen because the authorities were going to send me to a work camp. i really should learn to keep my hands off of things that aren't mine. my father beat the shit out of me and my mother. i worry that my mother is dead. i want to go back and rescue her, but i'm too goddamn afraid. someday i'm gonna ::
make enough that i can find my mother and rescue her if i can. if i had to sum it all up ::
while Thios can easily be the life of the party, he's really a very private person. He loves to drink and cause a ruckus, but noday really knows anything about his past. Everything that happened before the Azalea picked him up in orbit is off limits. The young engineer puts up a tough front, as is necessary when trying to make your living among seasoned pirates. [/style]
where i'm comin' from
[style=color:#6d4350; text-transform:uppercase;]my mother is ::
Amarylla Nanda (47) Born and raised in the Hive, Amarylla couldn't help being seduced by the free spirited Emilian Nanda. He was a pirate, the very picture of a bad boy. She was in love. When she got pregnant, she somehow convinced him to stay and help her raise it, me. That wasn't a very good decision, ma. my father is ::
Emilian Nanda (50) Formerly a free spirited pirate, Emilian settled down to help my mother raise me. He obviously regretted the choice, because he turned to whiskey. He would drink and beat up on mom. When I tried to stick up for her, he beat up on me. i was born in ::
the hive. and i grew up with ::
nobody. i was a mistake in the first place. i'll always remember when ::
one of the rare times my father was not drunk was at my first trial. I was only ten years old, but they had caught me in the jewelry shop down the street. I tried to tell them that the window was open, but they didn't believe me. The only sober words I can remember my father uttering are "You're a fucking failure, stupid kid."if i had to write an essay ::
like many pirates, Thios did not come from a very good home. his father was a drunk, and abused both Thios and his mother. Therefore, the boy avoided home as much as he could. However, in the Hive, that was not near as often as he would have liked. Soon, the boy discovered a knack for finding ways into places he shouldn't be. Not long after, the boy learned that he could take the things he wanted, as long as he was smart enough to not get caught. He stole things for his mother mostly. Candies, perfume, flowers. Things that his father never bothered to buy for her.
At age ten, he got caught in a jewelry store. The Hive has no tolerance for crime, regardless of age, and so he was put on trial for theft. He tried to argue that it was the store's fault for leaving their window cracked, but the court would hear none of it, and sentenced him to a children's work camp for one year. He hated every minute of it, but that was the first time he got to work with engines, and he found that as long as he worked hard, the work camp was almost better than home. But he couldn't help but worry about his mother when he was incarcerated.
Over the next five years, Thios got caught a second and third time, and this time they were going to send the now fifteen year old boy to the work camps for life. His mother panicked and sold everything she could get her hands on to get him off planet. The Azalea was the ship that picked him up in orbit. His mother hadn't had enough to actually pay them to take him anywhere, so he was forced to work his way to the nearest port.
His mentor was the old engineer Vesuvius Warick. He had worked engines for more than fifty years, if you believed what the old man said. By the time they made it to port, the old man decided that he wanted to keep Thios on and train him to take over when he retired. It took eight years for the old man to retire, but when it finally happened, Thios was more than prepared to be the engineer for the Azalea. He knew how to get what he wanted, and keep his guard up without anyone really worrying about it. Every man for himself.
